Steve Jones is a 6th grade teacher at Algood Middle School.
He was nominated by Michael Gaw because “If ever there was a teacher who thinks outside of the proverbial box it is Mr. Jones. He is exceptionally creative in his teaching approach setting high standards for students and motivating them to, not only meet, but to exceed those standards. He makes himself available to students before and after school for extra help, and he is quick to respond to concerned parents. Many teachers get frustrated when students don’t understand a concept and either gets mad if you keep asking a question or just moves on when you don’t get it—NOT Mr. Jones..he will answer your question 10 times if it takes it to help you understand. He is one of the kindest, most patient teachers ever! He has a talent for engaging the students and making even the most disinterested look forward to his class. Those who already love math thrive in his classes. He has the ability to quickly identify how each student learns best and works with those who are struggling in the manner that best suits their learning style. Fortunate to have him first period, as it sets the tone for the rest of my day.”
