Former Tennessee Senator Howard Baker Dies

Howard Baker has been a familiar name not only in Tennessee politics but for the entire country for over two decades. He served in the Senate from 1967 to 1985.  Senator Baker was  majority leader from 1981 to 1985 and was also President Ronald Reagan’s Chief of Staff. Mr. Baker was the first popularly elected Republican senator from Tennessee. He played a key role in trying to find out the facts behind the Watergate scandal involving President Richard Nixon, asking the question, “What did the president know, and when did he know it?”.  Senator Howard Baker died June 26 at his home in Huntsville, TN of complications from a stroke. He was 88.
