Today In The Upper Cumberland: Domestic Violence Survivors Pt 2

Domestic violence survivors share their stories to help others with their words.

The number of domestic violence cases across the nation and here at home rose significantly during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the numbers have not decreased. Today we’re focused on domestic violence, and the things that many of us don’t understand about the issue. Two survivors of domestic violence wanted to come forward to share their story. First of all as an inspiration to those who may be fighting themselves to get out of a domestic situation, but also for the rest of us to better understand this problem. We have granted their request to remain anonymous.

They discuss when she first took an interest in fiber art, how she creates her pieces and series of works, and where she find the inspiration to continue creating.

Santa: Live From The North Pole!

Santa has finished making his lists, he’s checked them twice, he knows that all the children of the Upper Cumberland have been nice! That’s why, direct from the North Pole, Santa is taking your phone calls!

If you missed him this week, guess what! He’s finished making all the toys so he has extra time! He will be back on the phone on December 15th and 17th to deliver special messages to the children of the UC!

Just send an email to santa@literock959.com including your child’s name, a phone number and a special message; Santa will then call them up!

You can call, too! Just listen next Tuesday or Thursday at 6PM for Santa’s que!

Santa made his first stop to the UC on December 8th, listen to all the Holiday Cheer below!

We understand the challenge of domestic violence, but many of us often wonder about what goes into these relationships. What leads to a relationship turning violent? Why is it so difficult for the victim to leave? Did the victim ever have a chance to get out? What leads someone to become violent? This week, two victims comes forward to share their stories. We are allowing both to be anonymous to protect their safety. Their words might be a help to others who are dealing with domestic violence.

Seeing the realities of what goes on in trying to make those decisions. And understanding the ways in which their views of reality have been changed by the perpetrator. As we focus on the increases in domestic violence since the start of COVID-19, we turn to Lacie Norris and LaChelle Lee of Avalon Center for help in understanding more about domestic violence.
