Barbra Tollison shares the history and story of the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail

No doubt you’ve seen signs, you’ve probably seen patterns on the sides of barns, but did you know how the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trails came to be? It’s one of those Upper Cumberland treasures. A project that celebrates our history. One of those behind the project – Barbra Tollison.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Legal Aid Society

Marla Williams talks providing legal aid to vulnerable residents across our area

32 attornies, 48 counties across the state of Tennessee served. A non-profit lawfirm designed to help low income citizens in 5 different practice areas. It is the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands. The Society gives vulnerable residents across our area an advocate. Marla Williams came to the society after growing up in Clay County and graduating from the University of Louisville Law School.

For all that people talk about the chocolate, cheese, and wine at Aldi, they really should also add the take-and-bake pizza to the conversation. A lot of people are already wise to them: A company rep once told us that certain stores sell out of pizzas pretty early on Friday nights. Families complain of mold, lead paint, rats in military housing ahead of hearing

The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday to investigate growing problems in the military housing privatization program. More than 200,000 homes on military bases across the country are managed by private contractors. A yearlong investigation by Reuters turned up dangerous living conditions. Senators will ask housing contractors and Pentagon officials how they plan to address the military families’ complaints about things like mold and water damage. Chip Reid reports. …read more

Alfonso Cuarón channeled the trauma from his father’s departure into “Roma”

The Academy Awards are 10 days away and “Roma,” a black-and-white foreign film with a largely unknown cast, has become an unlikely Oscar front-runner.
