Today In The Upper Cumberland: Tornado Aftermath

This week, we examine the lessons learned from the March 3rd tornado aftermath.

The clean up and support have been big parts of the tornado aftermath since the March storms roared through Putnam County. Another part of the aftermath has been assessment. What lessons were learned? What things need to be done better? Today we examine those lessons from emergency management and law enforcement with Cookeville Police Chief Randy Evans, Tyler Smith of Putnam County Emergency Management, and Brandon Smith of Putnam County 911.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Genesis House

Program manager Denise Dillon discusses the services offered at Genesis House.

One in four women, and one in ten men, experience domestic violence. It can take various forms – physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological. And the domestic violence cases across the nation have increased exponentially during the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s certainly been the case in the Upper Cumberland as well. Today, the services available through Genesis House – not just the shelter, not just the 24 hour hotline, but accompaniment, advocacy, crisis intervention, support groups. Denise Dillon is program manager at Genesis House.

Find out how the Small Business Development District is helping business owners.

Whether it’s help with planning, marketing, or trying to make your business grow, the Small Business Development Center is a resource for local businesses across the Upper Cumberland. The Center moved this year from under the guidance of Tennessee Tech to the Upper Cumberland Development District. In addition to its normal work, right now, the Center is a resource to help small businesses deal with COVID-19 and the ongoing challenges. Tyler Asher is Director of the Small Business Development Center. Maegan Smith is a business development specialist.
