One of the biggest confrontations ever among SEC coaches this week points out just what a time of change it is in college sports. A lot of people worried about NIL – what it means for pay for play, the transfer rule – it’s all coming together at one time to transform the look of college athletics. In a press release earlier this week, the NCAA Board Of Directors said, “NCAA recruiting rules preclude boosters from recruiting, and/or providing benefits to prospective student athletes. So how does this jive with NIL rules? It’s just part of the complications of the new world that we’ve seen evolve over the last two years. Now imagine being an Athletic Director in these turbulent waters. Mark Wilson is Tennessee Tech’s Athletic Director.

A Tennessee Tech professor has made it a part of his research to understand the history of sport, and why it grabs so many of us in such an important way.
