Courtney Smith Of Cumberland County High School Is A Dream Big Scholar

Courtney Smith Cropped106-9 Kicks Country and The Tennessee Credit Union recognized Courtney Smith, a senior at Cumberland County High School in Crossville, as a Dream Big Scholar.

Smith maintains a 3.8 GPA, a four year member of The Girls’ Basketball Team, and has received the 2015 Chemistry Award at her school.

Smith plans on going to Tennessee Technology University and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Courtney Smith will now be eligible to win scholarship money from 106-9 Kicks Country and The Tennessee Credit Union.

Growing A Generation Winner: Lewey Clouse Of Prescott Middle

Lewey Clouse CroppedLewey Clouse is a Social Studies teacher at Prescott Middle School. Clouse was nominated by Bell Bontrager because he “was such a good teacher and made sure you understood what he was teaching. He made sure he knew the material that he was teaching before he tried teaching it. Overall he was always there for you and was such a great teacher.”

Growing A Generation Winner: Hope Ballard Presley Of Fortis Institute

She was nominated by Brittani Brown because “She is the most caring and wonderful teacher ever! She takes time to check on past and present students while they are in clinical and their jobs!”

Growing A Generation Winner: Steve Jones of Algood Middle

Steve Jones CroppedSteve Jones is a 6th grade teacher at Algood Middle School.

He was nominated by Michael Gaw because “If ever there was a teacher who thinks outside of the proverbial box it is Mr. Jones. He is exceptionally creative in his teaching approach setting high standards for students and motivating them to, not only meet, but to exceed those standards.He makes himself available to students before and after school for extra help, and he is quick to respond to concerned parents. Many teachers get frustrated when students don’t understand a concept and either gets mad if you keep asking a question or just moves on when you don’t get it—NOT Mr. Jones..he will answer your question 10 times if it takes it to help you understand. He is one of the kindest, most patient teachers ever! He has a talent for engaging the students and making even the most disinterested look forward to his class. Those who already love math thrive in his classes. He has the ability to quickly identify how each student learns best and works with those who are struggling in the manner that best suits their learning style. Fortunate to have him first period, as it sets the tone for the rest of my day.”

Tamara Vaughn Of White County High Is A Dream Big Scholar

Tamara Vaughn CroppedLite Rock 95.9 and The Tennessee Credit Union recognized Tamara Vaughn, a senior at White County High School in Sparta as a Dream Big Scholar.

Vaughn has received the President’s Education Award Recognition of Outstanding Academic Excellence twice and has received many awards throughout her school years.

Vaughn is a member of the high school band and has been in band since 6th grade. She is also in HOSA and the Beta Club and does volunteer work at the nursing home in her hometown.

Tamara is going to continue her education in college to become a doctor!

Tamara Vaughn will now be eligible to win scholarship money from Lite Rock 95.9 and The Tennessee Credit Union.

Hannah Johnson of Livingston Academy is a Dream Big Scholar

Hannah Johnson Cropped106-9 Kicks Country and The Tennessee Credit Union recognized Hannah Johnson,  a senior at Livingston Academy in Livingston, as a Dream Big Scholar.

Johnson was salutatorian her eighth grade year. She has been in the Beta Club for four years and was recently nominated to join the National Honors Society in which she was elected as an officer. Johnson has served in the Youth Leadership of Overton County. She has met all the criteria for Tennessee Scholars and maintains a GPA of 3.95.

Johnson is a Christian that is involved in many church activities and helping the community of Overton County.

Johnson plans to attend Tennessee Tech University and major in Pre-Dental Hygiene and then transfer to East Tennessee State University where she will complete her BS Degree in dental hygienist and then maybe her master’s degree.

Hannah Johnson will now be eligible to win scholarship money from 106-9 Kicks Country and The Tennessee Credit Union.

Growing A Generation Winner: Prescott South Middle’s Mary Beth Herron

Mary Beth Herron CroppedMary Beth Herron is a 6th grade teacher at Prescott South Middle School of Cookeville. She was nominated by Iris Strode because she “makes her Language Arts classes fun and meaningful. She uses music, games, and poetry to make our lessons interesting. She challenges us to think about the meaning of things we read and also songs we hear on the radio. You can tell she cares about us and is interested in us as people, not just students.”

Growing A Generation Winner: Findlay Elementary’s Rhonda Girdley

Rhonda Girdley CroppedRhonda Girdley teaches Kindergarten at Findlay Elementary in Sparta. Girdley was nominated by Matthew Hargrove because “Ms. Girdley has been a teacher for 30 plus years and is wonderful. She has had both of my children. They went into Kindergarten crying and being scared. Ms. Girdley has taught them to come out of the shy bubble and now they are both outgoing and have changed 100 percent.”

Upper Cumberland Spirit: Red Boiling Springs

UC SPIRIT 200x200Lite Rock 95.9 and Progressive Savings Bank asked Red Boiling Springs to show their Upper Cumberland Spirit.  They did and it could win Red Boiling Springs $1000! Check out the gallery below.

And be sure to come out Friday night for the Football Friday Tailgate Party from 5-7pm. We’ll have plenty of photo ops for you, your kids, and the entire community.

The school with the most Upper Cumberland Spirit Pictures at the end of the season wins the $1000 from Progressive Savings Bank.

You only have until Sunday at midnight to get all your pictures uploaded so get busy and show your Upper Cumberland Spirit!
