Beautiful Upper Cumberland Sunrise

I love to share things with you that make you smile.  This definitely made my day a little brighter!  I was driving in to work this morning and saw these gorgeous colors in the sky.  I snapped a couple of quick pics of the sunrise over Cookeville.  I hope your day is as great as the sunrise. 🙂    ~Sheila Scruggs

Just Listen To This Little Voice!

When I heard Rhema Marvanne’s version of Amazing Grace, I was literally blown away by how an 8 year old girl could sing with that much authority. It was like she had adult knowledge of what that song really means.  She was only 8 when she recorded it.  Her mother, Wendi Marvanne -a singer also, died of ovarian cancer when Rhema was only 3. She said she believed her Mommy left behind her singing voice because she no longer needed it. Rhema Marvanne has now became a Gospel Singing Sensation with over 30+ Million Video Hits online and has appeared on ABC 20/20, FOX News, CBS, NBC and many other media outlets.

Let Your Ideas Flow

You never know what you can accomplish.

The Eiffel Tower was designed at home on the kitchen table
By someone who didn’t get their name on it
It had never been done before, not guaranteed to get built or to work
It was criticized by hundreds of leading intellectuals and cultural experts
It wasn’t supposed to last very long
It’s designed to be an icon, it’s not an accident
People flock to it because it’s famous

In May of 1884, working at his kitchen table, Maurice Koechlin made an outline drawing of the scheme he and Emile Nouguier, both engineers with the Eiffel firm, had conceived of as the centerpiece for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris.  Initially the owner of the company, Mr Eiffel himself, was not enthusiastic about the concept. A competition for other tower designs was created but the Eiffel design won the competition. A contract was finally signed on January 8, 1887 to build the tower. Eiffel had a permit for the tower to stand for 20 years; it was to be dismantled in 1909. The original contest rules for designing a tower included that it should be easy to demolish.  It’s now the most visited paid monument in the world and the tallest structure in Paris, France.

Weird Al Is Back

Weird Al Yankovic has made a parody of the Pharrell song “Happy”.  In the video, he’s recruited some of his famous friends.  Here’s what he wrote: “Huge thanks to Jack Black, Kristen Schaal, Eric Stonestreet, Margaret Cho and Aisha Tyler for being in my video for “Tacky”.”  The album has other songs including, “Handy,” (“Fancy” by Iggy Azalea, perhaps?) and “Word Crimes,” believed to be set to “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke.

New Whitney Houston Biopic

Yaya Decosta, best known as the runner up on “America’s Top Model” and for her acting on “All My Children”, has been cast to play Whitney Houston in a Lifetime movie directed by Angela Basset.  Much of the movie will focus around Whitney and her tumultuous relationship and nearly 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown, which ended in divorce April 2007.  33 year old Arlen Escarpeta is set to play Bobby Brown.  Surprisingly, the film will not focus on Whitney’s death.  Director Angela Bassit, who starred with Whitney in the movie “Waiting To Exhale”, said she’s not interested in dragging her death into the spotlight again. The movie is being filmed now and will air next year.

Lemur Sits On Baby’s Head

I was an interactive exhibit at the Kansas Zoo with Lemurs.  Angie Widener took her three daughters – including 9-week-old Finley. Strollers aren’t allowed in the lemur exhibit, so she carried Finley in the stroller’s removable carrier.  She sat the baby down to take pictures. As Angie was snapping photos of her other daughters, she heard someone say, “Ma’am, there’s a lemur on your baby’s head.”  She didn’t worry too much and snapped a picture of her baby and the lemur before picking Finley up.

Doggie Drama Breeds

Does your dog whine the second he sees the door at the vet’s office? Tuck her tail as soon as the nail trimmer comes out? While some dogs are happy and care-free all the time, others are more, well,  dramatic.

According to experts, these are the five most dramatic dog breeds.  Is yours on the list?

5. Dachshund

4. Pug

3. Beagle

2. Chihuahua

1. Basset Hound

National Magazine Interviews Sheila Scruggs

Imagine my surprise when Brighton Living Magazine called me to say they wanted to do a feature story about me.  What? Why? They focus on positive stories that center around helping others.  I immediately said it’s EVERYONE at Stonecom Radio.  It definitely takes us all to accomplish the work we do in the community.  I am very thankful for those in my team.  My home and work family lends tremendous support and I am very grateful.  It was an honor to be in the spotlight but I carry all those with me that are a big part of the wonderful work I do every day.  Link to Brighton Living article:   http://ow.ly/ySlFO
