Kids use them in the car to listen to music, watch movies, and play games. Commuters use them for hands free chatting while driving, or listening to books on a long train ride, and no one goes to the gym without music. That noise right in your ear day after day could be damaging your hearing. Hearing loss among teens today is 30% higher than teens in the ’80s and ’90s, and it’s all because of technology. Be diligent about limiting your kids’ earbud use. Don’t let kids listen to the volume above 60% and only for an hour at a time!

New Words For The Dictionary
Each year we come up with new words or terms that make it into the Oxford dictionary and among the ones this year:
Awesomesauce “extremely good, excellent.”
Beer o’clock “an appropriate time of day for starting to drink beer.”
Brain Fart “a temporary mental lapse.”
Butt Dial “to inadvertently call someone on a mobile phone in one’s rear trouser pocket.”
Hangry “Bad-tempered or irritable as a result of hunger.”
Mic Drop “An instance of deliberately dropping or tossing aside one’s microphone at the end of a performance or speech one considers to have been particularly impressive.” or Awesomesauce
Sheila Says: Let’s make up a word and see if it makes the dictionary!
Bryan Cranston shows us a true mic drop!
Jennifer Lawrence & Amy Schumer Playing Sisters
Not only will Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer be playing sisters in a movie but they both are co-writing the script together. After the success of Amy’s movie Trainwreck that she starred in and wrote, it’s no surprise. Jennifer said she emailed Amy after seeing Trainwreck. They started texting each other after that and then vacationed together. Now, they are writing a script. Both have said the writing just flowed out of them. Jennifer has stated the two are “creatively made for each other.”
On National Dog Day I Honor My Dog Izzy
I met Izzy almost 10 years ago while featuring my Pet of the Week. She was only 8 weeks old, made eye contact with me and sat on my foot. She stayed by me the entire time. She told me I needed her. She was right. My husband and I adopted her from the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter. Through this dog, I have met many wonderful friends. I have walked more, smiled more, even enjoyed my back yard more by playing frisbee with her. On this National Dog Day, take a moment to realize how lucky you are to have that furry best friend that loves you no matter how bad your day has been. No matter how bad of a hair day you have. No matter how mad you may get at them. They still greet us with eyes shinning and tails wagging.
Sheila Says: Izzy, thank you for making me smile! You’re one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever met and one of my very best friends.

The Psychology Behind AMC’s Walking Dead Success
On the heals of the spin-off that debuts this week, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, I did an interview this week with Dr. Travis Langley. He’s a Professor of Psychology and also a big fan of AMC’s The Walking Dead. In our interview, he talks about why so many people are drawn to this show, their love for Daryl & his crossbow and the hope that comes from a show like this.
Sheila Says: Give it a listen. I think you will find it interesting. It’s a “Don’t Miss” for TWD fans.
