Sheila Says: Help The Boy Scouts Get to New Mexico

Thanks to Putnam County Boy Scout Troop 156 for coming by our studios for an interview.  They have a fundraiser to help them go to New Mexico to stay at a ranch.  Stop by the Putnam County Courthouse on Saturday, November 28 and Saturday, December 5 from 8 am to 4 pm. Boy Scout Troop 156 will be selling Frasier Fir Christmas Trees and wreaths.

Sheila’s Pet Of The Week: Mrs. Doctor Doomy

Doomy is very timid when she first meets you, but with a little coaxing and understanding, she warms up. She’s a little over a year old. Doomy loves to be scratched behind the ears and petted. Adopt her today at the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter.

Sheila Says: James Taylor Has Fun With Stephen Colbert

James Taylor was on the Stephen Colbert show this week and claimed he “was still working on ‘Fire and Rain'”.  Claiming he “hadn’t seen that much” when the classic song was written in 1970.  Stephen Colbert even sang along with James referencing some pop culture in the “new” version.

Sheila Says: Duran Duran Lend Their Royalties To Help

British fans have started a campaign for the band that was onstage Friday at the theater in Paris when terrorists entered the theater and killed more than 80 people. Fans are wanting the band’s cover of the song “Save A Prayer” to become number one.  Simon LeBon of  Duran Duran tweeted that his band will donate its share of royalties from the song to a charity and is “considering options that are useful, peaceful and uniting.”

Sheila Says: Deals & Freebies For Our Veterans

Many restaurants are offering discounts or freebies for Veterans. The savings are for Veteran’s Day only. The information was listed online, but it’s always a good idea to check with our local businesses to make sure they are participating.

 

Starbucks: Veterans, active-duty military personnel and their spouses will receive a free 12-ounce cup of coffee.

Red Lobster: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free appetizer or dessert

Logan’s: Civilians can gift a free desert with a veteran or active-duty military personnel by sharing it on Facebook or Twitter. (This restaurant also provides a 10 percent discount every day to veterans and active-duty military personnel).

Chili’s: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free meal from a special menu.

Cracker Barrel: Veterans will receive a free Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake dessert.

Golden Coral: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free meal.

IHOP: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive free Red, White and Blue Pancakes.

Little Caesar’s: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free Hot and Ready Lunch Combo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Olive Garden: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free entrée and family members dining with them will receive 10 percent off their bill.

Outback Steakhouse: Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free Bloomin’ Onion and a beverage. From Nov. 12 to Dec. 31, all military personnel and their families will receive 15 percent off their bill. Rain checks are available for those who are currently deployed.

Sheila Says: Discover Art In Cookeville During Art Prowl

More than 30 artists will display their work at 18 different Cookeville area locations this weekend. Some will be demonstrating their art right in front of you. Feel free to ask questions to the artist and find out the story about their piece on display. No admission to be an onlooker at this event, although beautiful art pieces will be up for sale.

Sheila Says: Crayola Is Here For Creative Adults

The Crayola company has launched a line of coloring books for adults. Crayola says it’s “Color Escapes” line of books and art supplies offers “a soothing, creative experience that’s easy to do and easy on your mind.” The kit includes four collections—nature, kaleidoscope, geometric and garden—and there are even markers and colored pencils available. It’s become a stress reliever for some adults and much cheaper than a therapist.
