Sheila Says: Today Is The Day The Music Died

The Day the Music Died Day is always observed on February 3rd. This day we remember the unfortunate and untimely death of singers 22-year-old Buddy Holly, 17-year-old Richie Valens and 28-year-old J. P. Richardson, aka: “The Big Bopper”. These three singers died in an airplane accident on February 3, 1959 near Clear Lake, Iowa. Their pilot, Roger Peterson, also died in the crash. Don McLean’s Song “American Pie” was the first to coin the phrase The Day The Music Died.

Sheila Says: It’s On Us

The White House It’s On Us campaign has launched a new contest. College a capella groups around the country can now compete for the chance to get advice from big-name musicians — and raise awareness about campus sexual assault at the same time. All the groups have to do is record themselves covering Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens To You.” It’s composed by Diane Warren & is the theme song for the campus rape documentary “The Hunting Ground.” The film has been screened at hundreds of colleges, and the song has been nominated for a Grammy and an Oscar.

Sheila Says: Is This Child Neglect Or Tradition??

One of Spain’s most celebrated matadors, Francisco Rivera Ordóñez, is under fire because he posted a pic on Instagram of him holding his 5 month old daughter while waving the red cape right in front of a bull. Other bullfighters are taking up for him saying it’s tradition to have pics made with their children while in the ring with a bull. They’ve all posted pics of themselves with their children doing the same. One bullfighter even said, “What’s the problem in showing our children a profession that we love.”

Pic shows: Fran Rivera and daughter. Bullfighters have come to the defence of Fran Rivera after he uploaded photos of himself fighting a baby bull with his daughter in his arms by uploading their own snaps of the same thing. The Spanish bull-fighter became a trending topic on twitter and the State Defence of Andalusia in southern Spain is also allegedly studying possible legal action against him. Social media users heaped criticism on the bullfighter, making parallels with political leader Carolina Bescansa who took her baby to congress as well as the notorious photo of Michael Jackson holding his son out the window. "Father of the year," posted one user, whilst animal rights party Pacma called the image "shameful" and claims the bullfighter is educating his daughter "without respect for animals". But now some of his Spanish colleagues have come to his defence by uploading similar images with themselves and their children. Alvaro Oliver wrote: "Here with my nephew in support of @Paquirri74 in respect to our lives and our values." Whilst ElCordobes wrote: "If I show my children the values of a bullfighter it’s because I want them to make use of their freedom, but with knowledge, everything else is ignorance." Health Minister Alfonso Alonso stated: "I don’t think it’s appropriate to put minors at risk, but I think it’s enough just to give the father a nudge in this case." He has confirmed that the Child Watch department is "looking at the case", although he believes there is "no need to go any further than to bring it to his attention." (ends)

Sheila Says: Manning’s Last Game Could Be The Superbowl

NFL Films’ cameras captured audio of Peyton Manning’s remarks to Bill Belichick after the Broncos beat the Patriots for the AFC Championship. Manning said,  “Hey, listen, this might be my last rodeo. So, it sure has been a pleasure.”  Super Bowl 50 could be the last time Manning suites up in the NFL before retiring. On a side note, this year’s Super Bowl is on pace to be the most expensive one yet. The average price of ONE ticket to watch the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers is $5,178.
