Sheila Says: Meet Your New Putnam County Fairest Of The Fair

Carly Stout of Baxter had a late night being crowned 2016 Fairest of the Fair, but she made her appointment early the next morning to be on Lite Rock 95.9 with me. Carly gets a thousand dollar scholarship to continue her nursing major with TTU in Cookeville. She talked about the excitement, the heavy crown and where she’s headed next.

Sheila Says: Is He Being A Jerk?

Publicity stunt or jerk? You decide. During an interview last week via video feed Jean Claude Van Dam walked out of an interview with Australian reporters because the questions they were asking were quote “Boring” adding, “Those questions, the press have been asking me the same questions for the past 25 years.” After that he stood up, unhooked his microphone and walked away.

Sheila Says: Ron Howard Brings Back Beatlemania

Beatlemania is back! Ron Howard’s movie “8 Days a Week” will focus on the Fab Four’s 1962 to 1996 tours. Beatlemaniacs and music history buffs mark September 16. It will debut at theaters first, then on Hulu the following day.

Sheila Says: We’re Getting A New Mural

I’ve had questions about the “I Believe In Cookeville” sign close to the depot. It’s on the opposite side of the building from the Coca Cola sign (Shelton Properties). Turns out the Believe sign was a little too much like the original one in Nashville. So, out of respect for that artist, Cookeville is designing a new one to replace it. Keep an eye out for it and I will also keep you posted.

Sheila Says: Here’s How To Save On Your Electric Bill In This Heat

On days like we’ve had recently, your air conditioner is probably working overtime, but there are ways to save on your electric bill:

  1. Be sure to change the air filter.
  2. Use fans. They’re much cheaper to use and they help circulate cold air.
  3. Stop cooling rooms you don’t use. If there’s an extra bedroom you’re not using close the vents in that room and close the door.
  4. Keep blinds and curtains closed. Nothing heats up a room like the sun blasting through.

Sheila Says: Miss Cleo Wasn’t Really Jamaican

The psychic Miss Cleo passed away yesterday morning of colon cancer. Remember her from the 90’s late night TV Commercials? She promised callers that she’d use “the power of the tarot to show you the way.” In an interview one time she said, “I come from a family of spooky people & voodoo.” Did you know her Jamaican accent was fake? She made her living 30 years with it tho. Miss Cleo was 53.

Sheila Says: I’m Swamped With Home Remedies

Thanks for all of the home remedies and get well wishes due to my scratchy voice. I’ve been fighting this upper respiratory infection off for about 6 days now. The doc has given me antibiotics. I haven’t addressed it much on the air but anyone who listens can tell I do not sound my usual self and some have even thought it was a different person on the morning show.  My listeners (along with my doc) are trying to get me back to normal with tea & honey, peppermints, cough drops and lots of love. Thanks for sticking with me and hopefully I won’t be hurting your ear drums with my squeaky voice much longer. Wellness has to be around the corner.

Sheila Says: Did You Know There’s A Baby Food Festival?

It’s time to pass the mixed carrots, or maybe the pear zucchini corn. Fremont, Michigan is celebrating the 25th annual National Baby Food Festival, which began Wednesday and ends Saturday. The town of 4,000 is home to the Gerber Baby Food Company and is welcoming thousands of visitors to enjoy entertainment as well as baby food eating contests by adults and a baby crawl race.

Sheila Says: Remembering Robin Williams On His Birthday

Today would have been Robin Williams’ 65th birthday. Whether you loved him as Mork from Ork or for his stand up comedy, maybe your favorite was “Good Morning Vietnam” or “Good Will Hunting” where he won an Oscar for that roll. I’m sure you probably have a favorite Robin Williams character in your mind. Happy Birthday, we still miss you and your talent, Robin.
