Beachgoers wary of Zika

Beachgoers and residents in Miami Beach are upgrading their defenses against mosquito bites following the arrival of Zika. Health officials have identified a new Zika zone in Miami Beach. Five people have been infected there, apparently by local mosquitoes. That’s just across Biscayne Bay from the initial Zika zone. That brings the total of mosquito-borne infections in the area to 36. Zika strikes Miami Beach: Five new infections reported

A second site of the Zika virus has now been confirmed in Miami Beach. Officials say five people in the Miami Beach zone have been infected, bringing the total number of infections in two areas of the city to 36. Both neighborhoods are popular with tourists. On Friday, the CDC warned pregnant women to stay away from the Zika zones, as the virus is known to cause severe birth defects. David Begnaud reports from Miami Beach. Source

Some evacuations lifted in areas affected by SoCal wildfire

The massive wildfire burning 60 miles east of Los Angeles is now about half contained. Evacuation orders for thousands of people in the area have been lifted. The wildfire began on Tuesday, burning 37,000 acres and destroying more than 300 homes and buildings. Carter Evans reports from Phelan, a city where residents were forced to flee. Source
