Israel fights Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, plans to retaliate to Iran missile attack

After Iran fired nearly 200 missiles at Israel Tuesday –nearly all of them intercepted by Israel’s missile defense systems and the help of U.S. destroyers based in the Eastern Mediterranean– Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that Israel will respond. The Israeli military also said Wednesday that eight of its soldiers were killed in fighting with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Vance, Walz hit campaign trail after VP debate

One day after they faced off in the vice presidential debate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz were back on the campaign trail Wednesday. A new CBS News poll found that viewers saw the debate as a pretty even matchup. Robert Costa has the latest. Source

Special counsel filing unsealed in Trump 2020 election case

A substantial court filing by special counsel Jack Smith in the 2020 election case against former President Donald Trump was unsealed by a federal judge Wednesday. In it, Smith argues that Trump “resorted to crimes” after losing the election to President Biden. The case had been thrown into doubt when the Supreme Court ruled in July that a president cannot be prosecuted for what it called official acts. Scott MacFarlane has details. Source
