Pete Buttigieg says he’s “got a lot more work to do to earn” the trust of black voters

Thursday is the final day for Democratic presidential candidates to qualify for the next debate, which is one week from today in Los Angeles. So far only seven candidates have done so, including Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is surging in recent polling. In Iowa, he’s in a tight race with the top candidates, and a poll in New Hampshire has him leading. Buttigieg joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the impeachment hearings, what his record shows in helping minority communities, and how he plans to tackle the student debt crisis. Source

Lizzo responds to criticism over revealing Lakers game outfit: “I stay in my own positive bubble”

Rapper, singer and classically trained flutist Lizzo is nominated for eight Grammy Awards, more than any other artist this year. Her song, “Truth Hurts,” made Billboard chart history. Lizzo joins “CBS This Morning” for her first network interview since the Grammy nominations. She says music is the “joy” of her life and describes how a visit with Prince transformed her from a musician to an artist. Source

In $25M settlement, Weinstein would not pay anything out of pocket or admit wrongdoing

Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein reportedly is close to a massive settlement with more than 30 women accusing him of sexual misconduct. The New York Times reports the tentative $25 million deal would end nearly every lawsuit from actresses and former employees. Their accusations range from rape to sexual harassment. Weinstein denies all allegations of non-consensual sex. New York Times investigative reporter and CBS News contributor Jodi Kantor, who broke the Weinstein story in 2017, joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss her report on the settlement. Source

Jersey City shooters had possible ties to hate group, investigators say

New video shows what the mayor of Jersey City calls an anti-Semitic hate crime. Surveillance cameras show two people firing gunshots into a kosher market on Tuesday, minutes after killing a police detective. Three people were killed in the store, and the attackers also died during a shootout with police that lasted hours. Two of the victims were buried Wednesday night. Don Dahler reports. Source
