U.S. Soccer claims male players have “more responsibility” than females

New court documents reveals that U.S. Soccer claims women should not get paid as much as men because they argue that male players carry “more responsibility” and their job “requires a higher level of skill” than their female counterparts. A spokesperson for the U.S. national women’s team called the argument plain sexism. The women’s team filed a lawsuit against U.S. Soccer in March. Source

Coronavirus containment zone implemented in New York

New York State is taking dramatic action to contain one of the country’s largest known coronavirus clusters. Governor Andrew Cuomo instated a three-square-mile “containment area” in the New York City suburb New Rochelle, a county with at least 108 confirmed cases. School classes, public events halted over coronavirus fears

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. exceeds 1,000, a significant jump from the prior week’s 126 cases. Out of 37 states with confirmed instances of coronavirus, 15 have declared a state of emergency. A growing number of schools and universities have canceled classes as big events like Coachella Music Festival get postponed over fears of transmitting the disease. David Begnaud spoke to a man who tested positive while traveling and is now confined to a hospital in a remote part of Egypt. Source

Florida man awaits hearing after overturned conviction

Crosley Green has been in prison for over 30 years for the murder of 22-year-old Chip Flynn. A March 12 hearing could bring him one step closer to freedom. Flynn’s ex-girlfriend, 19-year-old Kim Hallock picked Green, a small-time drug-dealer, from a photo lineup. Green got a break when his attorneys obtained notes the prosecutor had made after first responders at the scene told him they thought Hallock was the one who shot Flynn. In 2018, a federal judge ruled that withholding those notes from Green kept him from getting a fair trial and reversed his conviction. “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty, who has been following the case since 1999, sat down with Green.
