Ernst Kirchner: Germany’s Picasso

The early 20th century painter Ernst Kirchner was a pioneer of Expressionism, yet he and his creations aren’t as widely-known as his contemporaries. His daring depictions of prostitutes and the street life of Berlin and Dresden in the early 1900s changed the course of modern art, yet his persecution at the hands of the Nazis heralded tragedy.
