Vince Gill on his friendship with Merle Haggard

Vince Gill says that he first met Merle Haggard the night he played with Emmylou Harris – a night he describes as “one of the greatest nights of my life.” The pair grew close in the final years of Haggard’s life, Gill said; soon after Haggard died, he wrote a song commemorating him that appears on his new album.
